“You are only as young as your spine is flexible”
By Joseph Pilates
The body heals itself when you are able to breathe correctly. A relaxed body is a relaxed mind.
The breath connects the body to the mind, creating energy and power for a stronger and healthier body.
Muscles move our joints and the breath gives muscles the power to contract therefore articulating the spine and creating mobility all around the body.
Brisa is from North-East Brazil and has lived in the UK since 1990. Her background in fitness comes from Capoeira, a mixture of dance, martial art and acrobatics. Brisa started training as a fitness instructor in 2002 and worked for more than ten years as a fitness instructor at the CityLit college teaching group classes. With her experience in martial art, movement to music and fitness knowledge, Brisa successfully taught several group classes in the London community including: fitness for women; fitness for Over 60's; children groups; mixed groups and young adults with learning disabilities.
Over the years, Brisa suffered training injuries which led her to start practicing Pilates to manage back and shoulder pain. What is Pilates?
Pilates is a method of exercise designed to improve your posture, mobility and core strength and stability.
It also helps to relax the body and the mind through awareness and focus in your breath, resulting in a lean, toned and well balanced and pain free body.
The objective is to restore the natural curvatures of the spine (cervical, thoracic and lumbar) therefore creating optimal alignment of your joints and muscles.
Pilates has long since been recognised by physical therapists, sports medicine experts and fitness professionals as one of the most effective and safe methods of exercises to help those with back injuries, back and neck pain, post-natal and rehabilitation patients to regain overall fitness in a safe and controlled manner.
Brisa uses STOTT PILATES®, a contemporary approach to the original exercise method pioneered by the late Joseph Pilates.
